Our
names are Brett and Karen Prescher and we purchased our first Jennet in
March of 2002 as an Anniversary present to each other. Be forewarned,
Miniature Donkeys are like potato chips…you can’t stop with just
one. They are truly a joy to own and bring us more laughter and love
than any large animal that we have ever experienced. They have their own
distinct personalities and a very unique bray, and love to use it every
time they see us hoping to get fed again. We feel honored to own these
wonderful animals and hope to develop a breeding program that continues
to improve upon the breed of miniature donkeys.
We
started our adventure into the world of miniature donkeys after a visit
to the Ft. Worth Stock Show. We have had the help of some phenomenal
people that we are pleased to have done business with and to be able to
call them our friends. Chiquita,
our pride and joy, was purchased at Lil` Longears Ranch from Bill and
Lynne Garrett in Point, Texas. One visit to their farm and you will fall in love, I know
We did!
We
purchased two precious geldings (Tulsa
and Sherman) and
our junior herdsire (Rebel)
from Nancy Westerdale in Trenton, Texas. We have also purchased
four jennets (Patience, Springtime, Jemima,
and Samantha)
from Nancy and have added them to our breeding stock. Thank you so much
for all your help Nancy.
Three
of our beautiful Jennets (Crystal, Christina, and Brandy)
were purchased from Quarter Moon Ranch in Franklin, Texas. Pete and
Carolyn Christian are another example of the gracious, friendly, caring
people that own, love, and care for these donkeys. Their love and
dedication to the improvement of the breed is inspirational. Pete and
Carolyn helped with the dispersal of a herd whose owner had passed away
and our girls were well loved and cared for during their stay at Quarter
Moon. Another reason we believe “Donkey People” are a rare and
wonderful breed of folks! Quarter Moon Ranch has some of the most
beautiful donkeys we have ever seen and just like every other breeder
we’ve dealt with, are knowledgeable, kind, and generous and we
appreciate all their help.
We
purchased our herdsire Bradley
from CeleBRAYtion Acres in Aubrey, Texas. Stuart and Jan Cawthon had
just arrived home from Shelbyville, Tennessee. While there, Bradley
placed 6th in his class of 20. CeleBRAYtion Acres is another wonderful place to see and
purchase beautiful, friendly, lovable donkeys. Stuart and Jan were
gracious, friendly and knowledgeable and we appreciate the opportunity
to purchase such an outstanding jack.
We
purchased three miniature horse's (Star, Jewel, and Sugar)
from Mike and Karin Davis.
Star's baby (Chief
Red Cloud) died during birth. We plan to breed them with our donkeys
to produce miniature mules.

We
have learned a lot since starting out and hope to continually increase
our knowledge of caring for and breeding miniature donkeys. We believe
you can never know too much about these sweet animals, and you can
definitely NEVER have too many Miniature Donkeys!! Come back and visit
our website often and check for new arrivals. We should be having more
newborns soon, and we cannot wait! We receive a lot of
love from all of our babies here at Grasshopper Hill and hope you enjoy
your visit to our website.
